Blast Cleaning

Blast Cleaning graffiti along the M40 motorway

We can carry out all types of blast cleaning on concrete, steel, stone, brick and other surfaces. For wet blasting we use the Quill Falcon patented Kwik Blast ® system. www.quillplc.com we also have conventional dry blast equipment. We have experience in using different media; garnet for fast removal of graffiti from concrete structures, calcium carbonate for graffiti removal on softer brick and stone substrates, and copper slag for steelwork.

We have our own custom built dust extraction equipment supplied by Michael Williams Engineering Ltd. We design and build blast containment structures for the work on site. We have blast pots suited for small dimension work and our most used equipment is powered by a 550cfm compressor with air drying burners.

We can carry out wet and dry blast cleaning on concrete, steel and other surfaces. Since May 2004 we have regularly removed graffiti from bridges and underpasses on the M-40 for Carillion Highway Services. Most of this work has been carried out using the Quill Falcon patented Kwik Blast ® system.

Queen Elizabeth Bridge A332 Windsor

We used our dry blast pot to remove graffiti from the Queen Elizabeth Bridge on the A332 from the M4 to Windsor in 2000.

Calder Road A-71 Edinburgh

We are currently blast cleaning railings and underpasses on the A-71 near Edinburgh for the city council Highways Department. We have constructed a mobile blast containment unit which runs along the verge encapsulating the railings as we blast. We have commissioned a powerful dust extraction unit from Michael Williams Engineering Ltd to remove all dust and debris from the blast chamber. We started out using our Kwik Blast 60 pot but quickly found that the cold wet weather was promoting an unacceptable degree of flash rusting. We are now using our dry blast pot (supplied by Airblast Ltd of Peterborough) and this is producing a very acceptable Sa2½ to the satisfaction of the site painting inspector. We are using grade A medium copper slag through a 3/8 nozzle powered by a 550cfm compressor with an after burner to reduce moisture content (supplied by Speedy Hire) The resultant profile is very good and ready for coating with Amercoat 4376 two pack aluminium primer as HA 115. The contract supervisor is John Jappy, Edinburgh City Development Transport.

Calcium Carbonate Graffiti Removal London Borough of Bexley

We have a lot of experience using calcium carbonate to remove graffiti from various stone and brick surfaces without any damage to the surface finish. We removed several hundreds of square metres of graffiti for the London Borough of Bexley using this medium. Contract Supervisor Dave Saunders of Works and Contracts Bexley Council will confirm that this was a very effective graffiti removal method.

In September of 2006 we were asked by Alfred Mclpine plc to come and blast clean laitance from bridge footings prior to the concrete pour for the bridge supporting walls. We did this using our dry blast pot with Garnet media but we changed this to copper slag which was much faster. We were using the 3/8 nozzle and a 260cfm compressor. This worked very well and the work was completed within the time we had estimated, the customer was impressed and pleased. "Your grit blasting service provided an efficient alternative to using pneumatic scabblers to remove the laitence, eliminating the problems of hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) among operators." www.alfredmacalpineplc.com
